Fourth Max Project

Well, it's week four, finally. We learned a little bit more about Poly Modeling, about overlapping Booleans to create hollow shapes. I also learned how to use an omni light. My scarecrow has several, including the one in his head.

The poncho was made with a plane that had 20 x 20 hieght and width segments. I converted it into an editable patch, and dragged each vertex into place to make it look windblown. Afterward, I gave it a carpet material, moved my omni lights around for a bit, and then added a shell modifier, which made it double sided.

The tree and the crossbeam were just some cylinders that I dragged around a bit using the move tool and the rotate tool. I used the scale tool to widen the base of the tree, and extruded a few polys to give a vague impression of trunks. I didn't feel like spending too much time on it, so I gave it a Smooth Mesh Mod and added a wood material to it.

The pumpkin was originally two spheres, one placed inside another that was slightly larger. I used the Boolean tool to make the inside sphere disappear. The eyes and the mouth were created by using some Line Drawings that I extruded. After extruding them, I overlapped them in the hollowed sphere, and used the Boolen tool to make them disappear. (B-A where B = Pumpkin) I choose every second line in the pumpkin, and used the loop option, the soft selection, and the scale tool to make the shpere resemble more of a pumpkin. I also tried to make the sphere appear more skull-like, so I higlighted a few polys and used the move tool to squash the sides in in certain places.

The result is the fourth max project I have ever attempted. It's not awesome, but I think it's pretty cool.
