I had a good feeling about this movie when I found out that Robert Downey Jr was going to play the part of Tony Stark.
Iron Man
When watching the trailer for Iron Man on tv, I was a bit skeptical about the graphics. I can happily say that the theatrical experience of Iron Man is not a thing to miss. Some of the shots of the iron and gold suit rampaging in the desert were so realistic that I had a hard time telling if I was looking at an actual prop or the cg model. Were there actual props? I don't know. I couldn't tell. I can honestly say that for the first time in my life, I have been fooled by the eyeball. Except for that time in Mallrats when I couldn't see the schooner.
Gwenyth Paltrow, as some of you may recall, is madly in love with me, and she also appears in this movie as Iron Man's faithful personal assistant. Although she could have used some more air time, I am glad this didn't turn into a chick flick like Spiderman Three or any of the xMen movies, for that matter.
Here's a bit of spoiler for those of you that didn't stay through the credits. Tony Stark walks into his mansion on the cliff, and discovers that somebody has infiltrated his security. Standing in the shadows is none other than Samuel L Jackson wearing an eye patch. He introduces himself as Nick Fury of S.H.E.I.L.D. and alludes to something called the Avenger Initiative. The twenty fanboys scattered throughout the audience began giving 300-style war cries, and somebody was beheaded.

They were okay, yes, but not like a truly good action movie should have been. I mean, seriously, was there a love triangle in Commando? No. It was just Arnold, kicking ass, and claiming the title of Best Superhero Movie Ever Made and Best Documentary About Arnold's Spare Time. ^__^

Anyhow, if chick flicks are your thing, I don't think you'll hate Iron Man, per se... it's just that the love story is played down enough that it doesn't jump in and provide the entire motivation for the events that unfold. If they make a sequel, then I would say that a love story wouldn't be a bad idea... if they save it for part three, well... that would be just as bad as having it in the second one. I mean, seriously- have you heard any rumors about a fourth Spiderman? I haven't. And they could definately do a fourth, or even a fifth. There's still the Crocodile guy and the vampire guy, and Carnage, and what about Spiderman vs The Hulk? You can't tell me that wouldn't be a great story. ^__^
All I know is that Superheroes + Love = Dead Bodies.

I haven't heard any rumors of a 4th Spiderman, but if Sam Raimi's directing it again I'm not too hot on seeing it.

Grrr, I didn't really pay attention to the romance in the first Hellboy, although the fire girl was pretty cool. What was her name again?
